Deal Story: Giving a 40-Year Legacy a Lift

After 40 years of owning and operating Premier Lift Products, Inc., Dixon Rypka was ready to retire and spend more time with his wife, Shelly. But stepping away from a business he'd spent decades building required more than finding just any buyer. With Dixon holding the company's Master Elevator License, the sale needed to include a succession plan that would allow the business to continue operating successfully while transferring the license to new ownership.

Dixon turned to Calhoun Companies after a fellow business owner referred him to broker Christopher Lappen.

With a strong reputation, established bidding processes, tenured staff and five years of increasing sales and profitability, Premier Lift Products was well-positioned for a successful sale. In fact, Dixon and Shelly received five offers within the first 90 days of listing the business.

“The challenge wasn't finding interested buyers. It was choosing one who could carry the business into the future.” explains Lappen.

After evaluating the offers, Dixon and Shelly selected Jeff Brunsberg, an experienced business owner with the financial resources and family support to carry the company forward. His wife and son also plan to be involved in the business. His son is currently attending technical school to become an electrician, a career path that naturally aligns with the industry.

While the transaction involved extensive due diligence and legal negotiations, both parties worked toward an agreement that included a plan to transfer Dixon's Master Elevator License and complete his transition out of the company within one year.

In the end, Dixon and Shelly received their full asking price and found a buyer positioned to carry on the company's legacy. For Dixon, the sale also opened the door to a well-earned retirement, with more time for family, travel and perhaps a few winters in Florida.
